James Kent, global managing director of reinsurance brokerage Gallagher Re, has been promoted to CEO of global strategic insurance relationships at Gallagher.
“Leading our reinsurance business over the past six years has been an honor and will remain so until I step into my new role,” Kent said in an emailed press release. “The most gratifying aspect was the opportunity to represent our key stakeholders – our customers, markets and colleagues – who continue to diligently support our business.
“This new role provides an opportunity to spend more time with these stakeholders to create an integrated platform for future success.”
Kent will be succeeded as global head of Gallagher Re by Tom Wakefield, who currently heads Gallagher Re in the UK. He will be appointed after the necessary transitional period has expired.
“Excellent work”
Commenting on the move, Tom Gallagher, Gallagher’s CEO of global brokerage, said: “James has done an excellent job leading and integrating Willis Re into Gallagher, which positions Gallagher Re for continued growth and innovation.
“The newly created global role will provide Gallagher’s carrier relationships with a single point of contact to support growth ambitions across our key trading partnerships. I am delighted that James has agreed to drive this initiative across our organization and look forward to working even closer together.”
Gallagher Chairman, President and CEO Pat Gallagher stressed that the acquisition of Willis Re has accelerated Gallagher’s reinsurance ambitions.
“Our goal to be the leading reinsurance broker is now stronger than ever as it is evident that our transport partners across the risk-to-capital spectrum are facing increasingly complicated challenges and they need us to help them solve them challenges,” he explained. “In this way we ensure an effective and competitive market for our customers.”
It’s not clear when the Gallagher changes will come into effect.
